Breaking
The thing about blogging is it’s not always going to happen in order. It should, perhaps. But at this point I know myself well enough to know I will likely jump all over the place. Stories of a recent ocean plunge, reaching back in the memory bank for pieces of another day.
And that is more than ok. A wise, creative friend once told me you need to learn the rules so you know which ones to break. And that seems right on for a little blog about getting in the ocean year round in Northern New England, with the hopes of a little story about rollerskating thrown in as well. So much rule breaking!
The blog I intended to start at the beginning of a new year, with visions of me writing away the cold, dark months of winter, is now being signed into as the calendar flips to June and the days are as long as they are going to be all year. The colors in our yards are finally popping, unlike the cold months of heading to the ocean smothered in a blanket of gray, blue, and tan.
Again with the rule breaking. Or perhaps really the expectation breaking…
So, January became June and a lot changed in that time. Time moved forward but life feels stagnant. Excursions to the water’s edge were replaced with medical appointments, emotions to work through, questions to answer, and surgeries to fix and remove the problem. So, on a sunny Saturday I sit at the computer working on the blog that was supposed to be live in January, missing the joy of the ocean but knowing it will be there for me when I need it.
It always has been.
